Backtracking through interventions: An exogenous intervention model for counterfactual semantics

Causal models show promise as a foundation for the semantics of counterfactual sentences. However, current approaches face limitations compared to alternative similarity theory: they only apply limited subset counterfactuals and connection logic is not straightforward. This article addresses these difficulties using exogenous interventions, where causal interventions change values variables rather than structural equations. model accommodates judgments about backtracking counterfactuals, extends logically complex validates familiar principles logic. combines interventionist intuitions approach with logical advantages approach.
